Tea Tree Oil March 30, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — smakol @ 8:55 pm

Yay for this stuff. For Real. It works on everything, here is a short list of thing I have personally used it for.

  • Zits
  • Burns (my straightning iron is evil)
  • An allergic reaction to my plastic belly button ring
  • dry skin
  • a deep cut

Here is a little background info on this miracle product.

Tea tree oil or melaleuca oil is a clear to very pale golden color essential oil with a fresh camphoraceous odor. It is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia which is native to the northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia. The oil has beneficial medical properties (including antiseptic and antifungal action), and is also believed to have beneficial cosmetic properties. Tea tree oil is usually used diluted, as reactions are common with pure tea tree oil.

I like this stuff better than normal neosporin because it comes from a plant, not a labratory and while some think the smell is offesive, I think it’s fresh. Go ahead and try it, this stuff works like magic!

Suma Root March 25, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — smakol @ 3:51 am

This is one ofmy favorite herbs. I think because it really is for every ailment. It is also known as brazilian ginseng and is native to many other south american countries. My grandmother intoduced it to me and now everytime I have a problem (seriously anything pain, a cold, bad attitude she says Suma will cure it) here is a short list of some of it’s healing properties.

  • calms nerves
  • kills leukemia cells
  • supports hormones
  • enhances immunity
  • relieves pain
  • lowers cholesterol
  • increases libido (Woo!)

It is a bit on the pricey side at about 13$ a bottle, but I really think it is worth it. Anytime I fell like i’m getting a cold or anything I get some of that stuff pair it with vitamin B complex and some Golden Seal and I have a wonderful herbal cocktail. Try it sometime!

Who Knew? March 19, 2009

Sometimes there can be things that are just sitting in our cabinets or refrigerators that can help cure many common ailments. In this case I will be talking about apple cider vinegar! Sounds far fetched I know, but here is just a short list of the things it can help, then I will give you a great real life example of how it works!

  • Acne
  • Sinus Infection
  • High cholesterol
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Contact Dermatitis
  • Sore Throat

So not only have I reaped the benefits of apple cider vinegar for my sore throats(thank you grandma!) but my best friend (the same one that I mentioned in my essiac post) has some light adult acne. Her dad thought that since apple cider vinegar helped him sleep better she might try it for her acne. Not only did her skin clear up but she started to sleep better as well!

This just goes to show that there are small things in our everyday life we can do to help out our bodies without using pharmaceuticals. Oh an as always if you are going to start using the vinegar it is best to get it organic, just so you can avoid the pesticides and such from the apples. Enjoy!

Essiac Continued March 17, 2009

So i’m still on my Essiac hype, it’s amazing and I have a strong opinion on it. This entry will mainly be my bitching about the government and how corrupt it is. In case I die of some freak accident in the next few months, you’ll know why.

Does anyone else find it just incredibly disgusting that the government and it’s agencies are literally killing or threatening people to the point of them keeping their mouths shut when there are cures for diseases such as cancer out there just so they can make a quick buck?  That was a really long sentence, sorry. Anyhow I don’t understand our world. When did money become so insanely unattainable that people would do anything to get it? Even take innocent lives? There are stories upon stories about people finding miracle antidotes to illnesses in rain forests and deserts. Then coming back to the united states to sell them for almost nothing and then they mysteriously disappear. I know that there is a lot of crap out there, i’m not come crazy conspiracy theorist. However, I do know for a fact that if we let many things that grow on this earth naturally heal us, our world would be a much healthier place. But how can we? When every time a herb is found it goes extinct? Or the person who knows about it is gone for good? I just want everyone to think about this, really ponder it.

Shame on you United States government.

Essiac March 16, 2009

Essiac is the name of a tea that was originally made by a Canadian nurse named Rene Caisse the 1920’s. This tea was made by a combination of herbs that came from an indian tribe and it was used as a successful treatment for cancer. There are several stories on this website that tell about the tea and what happened to Rene and her family when she tried to open her own treatment center for cancer patients. Also is tells about the people who tried to get essiac as a treatment norm for cancer patients. I really urge you to read up on this, as I can’t really explain it in as good of detail as this website.

Long story shot though this tea is a miracle. Not only do I believe this website, but I have a quite personal tie to it. This is a completely true story by the way. My best friends mother was diagnosed with an incurable form of bone cancer. After years of fighting she was unable to beat it and she stopped chemotherapy. When she stopped she was in an intense amount of pain and was taking at least 10 extra strength vicodins a day. My best friends dad read about this tea and decided to give it a shot. With in months Janet(my best friends mother) was only taking ONE vicodin a day. Unfortunately it was too late when she did find the tea, but as late as it was, it still did things traditional medicine could not.

Sorry this post has gotten so long, I will be writing more in detail about essiac in later posts. However, I will give you a few links. One to the Essiac site I find most helpful and one to the National Health Institute. I want you to read the NHI one about Essiac. I think it is funny how they state that it has not been researched but it “may be known to cause head and neck cancers, however there have been no documented human cases” Hmmm. I will comment on this in a later post.

Federal Drug Control March 6, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — smakol @ 4:01 am

So this is really just a rant I have been holding in for quite sometime after it was brought up to me by a good friend. While reading this I would like to clarify that I am NOT a drug user, nor have I ever been. I just happen to have a pretty liberal opinion about the only drug to which I am referring, which would be pot, marijuana, mary jane, bomb, ganja, or whatever you wish to call it.

Here is my frustration, it ties in I promise so stick with me. Since 1988 the Federal Government has spent billions against the “war on drugs”. Now when it comes to coke, meth, or any other unnatural truly harmful substance that can kill and or damage peoples bodies I am all for a war against these substances. However, when we are still spending millions on anti-pot commercials it just irks me. I don’t understand how out government can approve and push pharmaceuticals (ah-ha there it is) on us when most, if not all, are much more harmful and physically addicting(I don’t disagree that pot is very mentally addicting) than any pharmaceutical out there.

If you have no experience of  what pot is like here is a brief overview:

  • you will giggle a lot
  • eat a massive amount of potato chips, candy, or any other food lying around your dorm room
  • get really tired
  • also slightly unmotivated to do anything besides watch tv and lie down

That’s about it. Pot in itself is not too terribly dangerous. Of all the people I have been around who are quite stoned none have felt sick or gone into organ failure. On the other hand here are some very general common side effects of a multitude of drugs.

  • Headache
  • dizziness
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea

Hmm, that doesn’t happen when something goes in your body that is supposed to be in there. I’m pretty much done, I just wanted everyone to think about this next time they see a commercial about pot ruining someone’s life. Then directly after listen to a commercial about an asthma medicine that is likely to cause “asthma related death”. I’ll put a link to some videos to help everyone get a grasp on what i’m talking about. Thanks for listening!

Anti-Marijuana Commercial

I can’t find a commercial so here is a link for a popular treatment for asthma. Check the side effects.

Finally, I thought this picture was pretty funny. Enjoy!

Skin Deep March 5, 2009

Just a warning, if you get anxious easily or tend to worry about this kind of stuff this site is NOT for you.

That being said, this site even scared me a little bit. Basically this website is a giant data base that has every cosmetic that on it with a scale rating its safety from 0-10. It has what kind of things about the product are dangerous and what part of the body that it may affect; i.e.endocrine system, reproductive system, skin, or anything else you can think of. It then tells you what you are risking by using these products.

Although I tend to thing this kind of stuff is interesting I think that it’s important to take it with a grain of salt. There are some people out there who can make a problem out of nothing – not that I disagree with the FDA approving unsafe products(duh). I just think that fanaticism in any form, even if it is to better our health, is never good.

So go aheadand take a look(with caution though, I don’t want to hear about you having nightmares involving deadly shampoo).
